SD Myers’ oil dechlorination and reclamation solutions are U.S. EPA approved processes for the destruction of PCBs in oil. The processes are proven safe and have dechlorinated and reclaimed over 50 million gallons (200 million liters) of oil in both transformers and bulk facilities. Both mobile and stationary plants have been built and operated in facilities around the world. SDMI can either perform this service or build a PCBX rig to your specifications and provide on-site training for your personnel until they are fully prepared to operate the equipment themselves.
Why do we offer oil treatment solutions?
- The SDMI oil dechlorination process destroys PCBs in transformer oils.
- It can perform energized work, retro-fills, or treat bulk, water contaminated oils.
- It is easily transported internationally with its modular, shipping container design.
- It is a proven, safe, and highly effective process that takes a disposal liability and turns it into a re-usable, high quality, dielectric fluid.
- When coupled with our other on-site services for PCBs, including Material Recovery (2-500 ppm PCB), remediation, oil reclamation, PE certified site plans, site construction, PCB off-site disposal (greater than 500 ppm), and full substation and laboratory capabilities - the full turn-key solution is provided by SDMI. SDMI is one of the most experienced PCB solutions companies in the world.
The SDMI oil dechlorination process
Shown below is the simplified PCB oil dechlorination operations process. The plant is run by qualified SDMI trained operations and laboratory personnel.
- The process is fully adjustable from a maximum flow of up to 1,000 gal/hr (3,800 liters per hour).
- The process is completely safe for work on energized transformers.
- Oil is pumped into the process trailer where the oil is heated and a chemical reagent is injected.
- The PCBs are quickly destroyed and the reagent is neutralized or, in some cases, reused.
- The oil is then pumped into the second container where it is filtered through clay beds and vacuum dehydrated.
- The "like new" oil is circulated back into the transformer.
- The minimal waste products are separated and sent for disposal with SDMI as the generator.
